WRITING

Non-fiction features, interviews, and profiles.

Recent projects include an essay on PetaPixel and four interviews with photographers for Lenscratch, each about 3,000 words, all re-published on this website: Victor Moriyama, Rachael Wright, Jesse Burke, and Jana Ašenbrennerová.  Other projects include a profile of fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky in Photo Media Magazine and an interview with photography consultant Christina Force, also re-posted on this website.

For the book, The ASMP Guide to New Markets in Photography, I interviewed thirty-two photographers (three chapters and 21,000 words), including Spenser Lowell, Andrew Eccles, Grace Chon, Melissa Golden, Ethan Pines, Saverio Truglia, Lynn Goldsmith, Chase Jarvis, Claudia Kunin, and Dan Winters.  I was for many years an editor and writer on the ASMP website and Strictly Business blog.

Other features include reported pieces about a resuscitated Victorian house, the biologist Ken Norris, children’s protective services, and substance abuse treatment programs.

As a producer, I wrote segments for a show on HGTV (Homes Across America), and wrote and narrated a radio piece for Marketplace, “Adaptive Re-Use”, that aired on NPR’s Morning Edition.

Not to be controversial, I am also a strong proponent for the use of the Oxford Comma.
